Five complete pharmaceutical systems in just 1,200 mm

Five units engineered around the customer's actual available space, retaining every function of a complete pharmaceutical system at up to 120 cartons per minute.

The challenge

Fit a complete system within a maximum length of 1,200 mm.

The customer needed five tamper-evident applicators with Track & Trace serialisation, but available space in the production room was extremely limited. Every unit had to retain all the functions of a larger conventional system and could not exceed 1,200 mm in length. The project was engineered from the outset around that exact footprint, without moving functions to external auxiliary equipment.

The solution

Printing, serialisation, vision and automation inside the machine itself.

The compact architecture combines carton transport, tamper-evident application, data printing and verification, control, and every electrical and automation component. No external electrical cabinet was required.

01

Tamper evident and Track & Trace

Security-seal application is integrated with carton serialisation so identification and traceability remain within one process.

02

HP printing technology

The printing system is integrated into the product path and uses recipes adapted to the different required data combinations.

03

DataMatrix and OCR inspection

Machine vision reads the DataMatrix code and uses OCR to verify printed text against the active recipe.

04

Integrated controls

Automation, electrical components and the operator interface all fit within the available footprint while remaining accessible for operation and maintenance.

Recipe management

One platform for every print configuration.

Recipes cover serialised cartons with DataMatrix and four text lines —serial number, product code, expiry date and batch—, configurations with DataMatrix and three lines, and non-serialised formats printing batch and expiry only. Vision verifies every combination through code reading and OCR.

Result

Five complete systems built around the available space.

The project demonstrated that limited space does not require reduced capability. All five units combine tamper evident, serialisation, printing, vision and recipe management within a maximum length of 1,200 mm, delivering a repeatable solution adapted to the customer's actual installation.
